The quartz tube bicolor level gauge is a direct-reading instrument that utilizes optical principles to make the liquid level “distinctly red and green.” It consists of a high-purity quartz glass tube, a meter body shell, and explosion-proof valves, with red displaying the height of the liquid and green for the height of the vapor phase,allowing operators to instantly distinguish fluid states even in harsh environments.

Application

The structural design utilizing a flexible tube eliminates installation stress, achieving an observation performance with zero blind zone at the lower end et un 100mm blind zone at the upper end. The built-in explosion-proof angle valves are equipped with safety steel balls, which automatically seal when the quartz tube ruptures.

It is primarily installed on high-temperature and high-pressure vessels in industries such as petroleum, chemical, electric power, and metallurgy, including boiler drums, storage tanks, and reactors. It can measure a wide variety of liquids, handling transparent or translucent media such as water, gasoline, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), liquid ammonia, propane, aromatics, and acids.

1. Scaling, Dirt Adhesion, or Impurity Sedimentation on the Inner Wall of the Quartz Glass Tube

  • Cause: When measuring water, chemical media, or liquids containing suspended solids over a long period, minerals, crystals, oil stains, or impurities in the medium will adhere and deposit on the inner wall of the quartz glass tube.

  • Effect: This directly obstructs or scatters internal light, destroying the original optical refraction effect and causing the colors of the vapor phase (green) and liquid phase (red) to become dim, turbid, or confused.

  • Cause: If the purity of the measured medium changes (e.g., a liquid that was originally clear and transparent becomes turbid, contains impurities, or darkens in color), its refractive index and light transmittance will change accordingly.

  • Effect: A decrease in medium transparency directly weakens the optical bicolour display effect.

  1. Flush and Drain: Periodically open the drain valve to flush and remove sediment at the bottom. If the inner wall is severely scaled, isolate the level gauge, disassemble it, and clean the quartz glass tube (taking care to avoid scratching the glass with hard tools during cleaning).
